2009 Food Review #4 - Laska Steamboat

The very bright signboard along the main road... you won't miss it!
Before the feast began... waiting for the broth to come to a boil.. and more importantly... the ingredients to be served!
Drinks available... the lime juice was quite good.
With some veg inside the broth... again waiting for it to come to a boil. :P
Some of the ingredients for the feast... the pork belly slices shown here... really good as it's very tender, kinda melts in the mouth.
This is a restaurant we ate at 3 months ago for my mom's birthday. It's a new and interesting experience... to have laksa as steamboat broth!

You know how the coconut milk will separate if you continuously boil it... so I was rather sceptical if the broth will be able to withstand the heat thru'out the whole meal. After the feasting, I was rather pleasantly surprise to see that the coconut milk did not separate and it was really good broth! It was "just right" without being too thick or salty. The "pot" had a divider in the middle, which on one side, there was the laksa broth, and in the other, chicken broth, which was good for the kids, as they could not take spicy stuff.

I really had enjoyed the meal as there was a wide selection of ingredients for the steamboat available, tho' the service may be a bit slow... probably due to the crowd that day? One thing tho' that really piqued my curiosity was the way the place was furnished. It was what I would classify as gaudy... hmm... the gold wallpapers, the gold light fixtures and the furniture did not seem to gel at all.

Price-wise, it was rather reasonable, perhaps because we went in a huge group of 15 pax, which tend to bring down the cost/head abit.

I took more pics of the place rather than the food!... guess I was really "intrigued" by the furnishing! LOL....
See the gold wallpaper... and gold paintings that adorned the walls???
Chandelier! and more light fixtures
gaudy
All in all, it would be a place I'll return to when there's a chance. However, for those who drive, it's a challenging to find parking lots. There is a small parking space right in front of the restaurant and some lots available at the next block. Also a few (probably less than 10?) at the small lane behind the building.
real pain in the a**

Here's the addy for those who are interested to try the food:
San Katong Laksa Steamboat Restaurant
404 Telok Blangah Road
Tel: 6275 7069 (reservations recommended, esp for weekends, unless you do not mind waiting abit)

Parting shot of another light fixture.. this one even spins slowly, casting shadows on the ceiling!
